Seven volumes (of nine) of the "Library of the Polish Brothers," Amsterdam 1656-1692

Parchment loss at the edges of one volume, a few pages loose, tears in the margins of a dozen pages in vol. 8, good condition overall. Seven (of ten published) volumes of the "Library of the Polish Brethren" - A collection of the most important Arian theological and philosophical texts. "After the edict condemning the Polish Brethren to banishment, almost the entire top of their intellectual elite left for Holland, expecting to find in that country an opportunity to continue their writing and publishing work. It was here, in exile, mainly on the initiative of Andrew Vishovaty, that all the more outstanding works of the Polish brothers were prepared for print and published in the years 1665-1669 in the monumental work 'Bibliotheca Fratrum Polonorum'" (Z. Golaszewski "Polish Brothers", Torun 2005, p. 295). "In 1674, the Library of the Polish Brethren was placed on the Index of Forbidden Books" (Wikipedia).
