Biography
He studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts from 1849 to 1854. In 1863, he left for France and settled permanently in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salons, receiving several honors and awards, as well as in Brussels, Berlin, Vienna, London, and New York. He also exhibited his works many times in Poland—in Warsaw, Kraków, and Lviv. Initially, he painted cityscapes, landscapes, genre scenes, and paintings depicting Polish history. In Paris, he gained recognition and popularity primarily for his scenes from French history, as well as his intimate, salon-style compositions featuring elegant ladies in opulent, historic interiors.
