One of the most valuable crown pennies of King Sigismund the Old.
A distinctive issue with a crown decorated with angels.
A rarity, about which Dariusz Pączkowski wrote as follows: "In 1546 another extremely rare type of crown was created, in which the centrally placed fleurons were replaced by arabesques.... This crown is known from several private collections, including Frankiewicz's, as well as major museum collections."
Its uniqueness is also evidenced by another fact. When, in 1930, in the pages of WNA, Marian Gumowski described M. Frankiewicz's magnificent collection, full of ducats, multi-ducats, thalers, it was among the dozen white ravens of this collection that he mentioned the 1546 crown penny with crowned cupids.
In addition, the present piece is illustrated in the reference catalog of the groshes of Sigismund the Old (Grzegorz Romanczyk), where it was given the highest degree of rarity(R*).
