Biography
Halina Dąbrowska was a psychiatrist by training. She took up the art of painting late, as only at the age of thirty-eight. Experiences gained during her professional work, contacts with sick people, as well as daily contact with the problems of the human psyche became a source of inspiration for the artist. In 1976 she was accepted as a member of the Association of Polish Artists. Particularly frequent in her work were motifs from Krakow: the Planty, Wawel or Kazimierz. Destroyed buildings, space complemented by figural staffage consisting of figures of old people, all referred to the transience of life and the melancholy present in it. After moving to Łękawica, both the stylistics of her works and the subject matter undertaken in them changed. Dabrowska's compositions took on brighter, more vivid colors and were filled with figures of children and depictions of animals integrated into a joyful landscape, which from now on was also an independent theme in the artist's works.
