Traces of non-moisture and soiling, title page in reprod. Good condition. A set of maps. Includes: Mela ("De situ orbis") - ancient description of the world (Europe, Asia, Africa); Solinus ("Polyhistor") - collection of curiosities about peoples, lands, peculiarities of nature (often based on Pliny), more anecdotal and "encyclopedic". Pomponius Mela - geographer of the first century, of Spanish origin, from the Seneca family, author of the surviving work "De chorographia" (proper title) in 3 books - written in the time of Caligula and Claudius (37-54 AD), which is a critical compendium of all the knowledge of geography at that time. Solinus Caius Julius - astronomer, geographer and Roman writer of the 3rd or 4th century AD. , author of the extant work "Collectanea rerum memorabilium", the material of which comes mainly from Pliny's "Natural History", supplemented by him only with curiosities collected mainly from the animal world. "Polyhistor" is a reworking made in the 6th century. Of particular note are the maps as an early example of book cartography. Rare.
