Terracotta, lead glaze multicolored-tinged (greenish-cherry-brown), partially infiltrated;
H 6.5 cm, base (circular) approx. 20 x 18 cm;
on the underside under a colorless layer of lead glaze, black handwritten inscriptions: Haw(.)? / Jan / Szczepkow(...)? / 1907
Executed by Jan Szczepkowski (1878-1964), Niedźwiedzki i Ska factory in Dębniki near Krakow, 1907.
Low candlestick with organic forms and decoration; on a circular, irregular base resembling a crumpled trunk, three low circular rings-lichtars, each with an opening for a candle.
The technologically interesting, experimental glaze is an attempt to achieve the effects of an organic, close-to-nature surface; a realization (after the bidder) of the prominent Cracow sculptor, painter and ceramicist Jan Szczepkowski, who fired his works at Adam Kirchmajer's Niedźwiedzki i S-ka factory in Dębniki, near Cracow, founded in 1900.
