Painter, creator of collages, assemblages, objects and spatial forms. Participant in, among others, the 1st Biennial of Spatial Forms in Elblag in 1965, as well as the International Plein-Air for Artists Using the Language of Geometry, organized by Bożena Kowalska since 1983. Mieczyslaw Wisniewski's art is synonymous with order and has a meditative character. Formal asceticism is often contradicted by the use of energetic, pure colors, primarily red.
Wisniewski was already painting in planes and geometrizing the shapes of objects after his studies. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he created compositions that were part of the matter art trend, using felt, sackcloth and leather - materials that had different textures and reacted differently to light. Then he began creating relief forms.
"Arrangements" and "Spherical Arrangements" are compositions for which geometry and light are fundamental. Keeping the square shape, Wisniewski experimented with the surface of the canvas. By complicating the construction of the stretcher bar, he achieved a multifaceted image. Extremely important for the perception of "Arrangements" are the mutual relations of color, texture and light, as analyzed by Bożena Kowalska: "Color in these works is important as a definition of the light contrast plane. This is because a sharp, bright reflection of brilliance on a background of black, dark red or cobalt has a different effect than on a white surface, and it also has a different effect on a canvas covered with varnish and a slightly rough, matte one. The artist experiments in different ways to try out all technical possibilities, the properties of the surface, the circulation of light, depth and convexity, their shape and character, as well as their mutual relations" (B.
