In the centre of the hinged lid a pommel topping conceals a hole for the carved wooden whisk used to keep the chocolate from becoming too thick.
Hallmarked with the silver hallmarks in use at Saint-Quentin in the jurisdiction of Amien from 1752 to 1755, with the countermark in use from 1750 to 1766 and with the hallmark of master silversmith Adrien Dachery (patented in 1730 - Ref. Jacques Helft, Le Poincon des provinces francaises, pag. 36).
