Obverse: BONO IMP PROBO INVICT AVG
Radiate, cuirassed and helmeted bust left, holding spear and Parma shield.
Reverse: VIRTVS PROBI AVG / KA•Δ•
Emperor on horse galloping right, spearing enemy whose shield lies beneath horse.
Bilon, diameter 23,2 mm, weight 3,63 g.
Extremely rare and desirable obverse legend with BONO ("bonus = "good"). Probus was the only roman emperor to use such an unusual title in the whole roman coinage! In addition, rare military bust with small, round (Parma shield). Parma shield is eagerly sought-after by collectors. It was struck only in the mints of Ticinum, Siscia, Serdica and Cyzicus. While this type of shield is rare on Siscia and Serdica coins it is extremely rare on Ticinum and Cyzicus coins.
