Horizontal painting depicting a winter outdoor scene. In the foreground one can see a dead moose laid out on a makeshift sled or wooden structure, partially covered with snow. To the right stands a harness horse with its harness, with its back turned to the viewer. In the center of the composition, three men dressed in heavy winter garments gather around a campfire. One of them leans over, adding branches to the fire, while the others stand nearby. To the left are two hunting dogs, facing the men. The background is a snowy forest with tall, slender trees. Smoke rises above the campfire, which softly dissipates in the cool air. The color scheme of the painting is kept in muted tones of whites, grays and browns, with the contrasting warm light of the fire. The entire piece is framed in a richly decorated, wide wooden frame with gilded floral ornaments and profiled mouldings. Signed in the lower right corner: "Z. Kaczówka."
Oil on canvas, wood.
Dimensions: 50 x 69 cm (canvas).

Zygmunt Kaczówka (1915-1996)
