Sigismund II Augustus, Half-Grosz 1559, Vilnius – L/LITVA – A without a crossbar – rare
The eleventh type of the Eagle and the sixteenth type of the Pogoń.
A variant with the king’s title on the obverse ending in ... L and a circumscription on the reverse ending with ... LITVA
In the circumscription on the reverse, the letter A and the words ΛVG and MΛG lack the crossbar – rare.
Condition: 2+
Minor flaws in the coin blank resulting in localized under-striking of the rim, but the coin is beautifully preserved. Good detail. Luster and mint mirror finish. A rare inscription variety with the letter A in AVG and MAG missing the crossbar. A rare coin that is quite difficult to find on the collector’s market. An attractive piece for specialized collections
