Jonas Čeponis (1926-2003) was one of the most famous modernist Lithuanian artists, who painted decorative works in bright, colourful colours. He fostered the individual expression of the artist, based on modernist principles of composition, colour and form, and the unity of the principles of folk art. His work is strongly influenced by the French Fauvists and Jonas Švažas. The legacy of Čeponis's work is spread throughout various countries, museums, galleries and private collections around the world.
