Wheeled ball gun with rich marquetry, dated 1616 ("1616" on lock nib). Octagonal barrel with profiled front sight, richly decorated stock inlaid with bone with engraved motifs of mythical animals and ornaments. Lock plate with detailed engravings of hunting scenes, complete with the initials "MM" on the stock. The weapon is equipped with a cocking lever and a trigger guard shaped for a comfortable grip. A technically and artistically exceptional specimen, representing the high level of European gunsmithing of the early 17th century. Excellent condition, appropriate for age.
