An early painting capturing the dreamy autumn mood of a village street in Kněždub in Slovácko, painted by Alois Kalvoda (1875–1934) shortly after his studies with Julio Mařák at the Prague Academy. It was Mařák's school of landscape painting that significantly influenced Kalvoda's painting development and his poetic relationship to the Czech landscape.Kalvoda, one of the most important Czech landscape painters of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, was influenced by Art Nouveau and Impressionism. The traditional culture of Slovácko, similar to that of his contemporaries Leoš Janáček, Zdenka Braunerová or Joža Uprka, was a strong source of inspiration for him.
