First Polish Republic – 17th Century “Pappenheimer”-Style Hussar Helmet / Hussars

An original 17th-century cavalry helmet of the "Pappenheimer" type. This helmet was used, among others, by Polish hussar regiments. The steel cup is smooth, with six forged ribs converging at the top of the cup, where the characteristic eyelet for hanging the helmet is located. A visor is riveted to the cup, along with a nose guard and a 4-ribbed neck guard secured to the cup with 3 rivets. On the front of the nose guard, there are two embossed marks resembling the number “4,” placed one above the other. The visor is secured with six rivets. The thread on the nose guard is intact. Inside the helmet, a hand-painted signature in oil paint reads: “Czerniawski Stanisław” “n?1.” This is the former ownership mark of the collector to whom the item belonged. No ear flaps.
