Warsaw, 1931. Published by “Zwrotnicy.” 14x21 cm, 36 pages, softcover. Good condition (some dirt and minor tears on the cover).
Second edition following confiscation. Print run of 500 pieces. The work was inspired by the high-profile Brest case and the 1930 imprisonment of opposition activists. The author presents the events through a conversation involving a young socialist faced with the dilemma of choosing between legal forms of defending democracy and revolution. The poem’s political message led to its confiscation in February 1931. Peiper personally defended his work in court at that time. The graphic design for the publication was created by Kazimierz Podsadecki ( 1904–1970), a painter, graphic artist, and representative of the avant-garde, associated with, among others, “Zwrotnica,” and known for his innovative photomontages, typographic designs, and works inspired by Constructivism.
