71,2 x 71,0 cm - oil, canvas
Signed l.d.: Janina Bobinska Paszkowska
The featured painting On the Road is an example of the artist's characteristic style - synthetic in form, yet poetic in expression. The composition depicts the Madonna and Child during their escape to Egypt. The figures are shown in a landscape with decoratively treated vegetation and intensely saturated colors. Characteristic of the artist are the ornamental patterns on the Madonna's cloak. Bobinska-Paszkowska used a simplified, flat form, in which linearity and decorativeness played an important role. She was close to the art of the Polish Formists, as well as European symbolic and stylized tendencies, including in the spirit of "Art Nouveau" ornamentalism. Her works are characterized by a desire to combine the painting of Renaissance masters with contemporary form.
The painting On the Road remains a testament to Bobinska-Paszkowska's artistic language - combining a lyrical narrative with attention to color and ornamental detail. As the artist herself said: painting is for me first and foremost music! Music without dissonance. I strive for serene, perpetual harmony.
Her contemporary critic, using the initials K.L. wrote: P[ani] Bobinska-Paszkowska paints with the now fashionable manjer of primitivism, and since she has an outstanding decorative sense, she creates graceful works.
