Leonard STROYNOWSKI (1858-1935)
Painter and pedagogue, educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Jan Matejko, Feliks Szynalewski, Władysław Łuszczkiewicz, Leopold Löffler and Florian Cynk. After graduation, he traveled, spending an extended period of time in the Caucasus. He settled permanently in Cracow, where he worked as a lecturer in artistic anatomy and perspective drawing at the A. Baraniecki Higher Courses for Women. He took up genre and religious subjects, painted portraits, made polychromes and designed mosaics, including for the Jesuit Church in Cracow. He was involved in conservation work, including in Złakowo Koscielne in the Łowicki district, where he amassed a sizeable collection of Łowicki cut-outs, later presented to the "Polish Applied Art" Society.
