Giorgio de Chirico, an Italian painter working mainly in the 1st half of the 20th century, is considered the creator of metaphysical painting (pittura metafisica), which was a completely new thing at the time, with no precursors.De Chirico created the concept of metaphysical painting. He drew inspiration from mythology, philosophical works and his own experiences. His later work was to be influenced both by his place of birth and his father's profession (the artist believed that, not coincidentally, he was born in Volos, from where the Argonauts began their expedition for the golden fleece; nevertheless, he identified more with Odysseus than with Jason).
