Against a sketchy background with an exquisite variety of green tones stands a floral arrangement of purple and white lilac with its small, delicate blossoms and characteristic leaves. In front of it, somewhat in the shade, a basket with many pansies completes the composition.
Furcy de Lavault was a French painter who devoted himself primarily to still lifes of flowers, animals and fruit. The fast and free brushwork reveals Impressionist influences, while the didactic composition suggests a traditional training.
