Hardwood, brass, porcelain, plaster; 138 x 79 x 74 cm.
France, 3rd quarter of 19th century.
In the form of a two-winged cabinet with straight sides and front and beveled front corners, topped with a coffered top, with two drawers at the bottom, placed on a table-top base with a rectangular top, with a folding leaf and a drawer in the surround, supported on four cabriole legs. The whole piece is stained black, inlaid with brass veining forming geometric fields on the surfaces, filled with brass sheet decorations in the form of floral patterns: tendrils, leaves, florals, and richly decorated with gilded bronze hardware in the form of molded moldings, hermes, corners, espagnolettes, signs and handles. On the wings of the door two plaques, one original porcelain from the Royal Manufactory of Sevres, the other made of plaster imitating porcelain. On the plaques are genre scenes depicting couples in a landscape setting.
The cabinet is in the style of furniture made during the Second Empire under Napoleon III, inspired by mid-18th century designs by Charles Andrea Boull, decorated with inlays.
