Stasys EIDRIGEVICIUS ( 1949)
He was born in Medinskaiai, Lithuania. In 1973, he graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, and has lived in Poland since 1980. A painter, printmaker, and illustrator, he often uses the “dry pastel” technique. He has drawn for publications such as *Polityka*, *Literatura*, and *The New York Times*; he created posters, book illustrations (especially for children’s fairy tales), bookplates, set designs, installations, and spatial compositions, as well as masks and paratheatrical performances. Extremely popular, he has earned the recognition of both experts and the general public. He has translated his childhood experiences from a Lithuanian village into the language of universal symbols and metaphors, creating his own distinctive style. He depicts a fairy-tale-like, mysterious world populated by little people with button eyes. His figurative art is characterized by a surrealist atmosphere with touches of irony and the grotesque. He works in various media: gouache, oil, pastels, and employs a variety of printmaking techniques.
