Giorgio de Chirico, an Italian painter working mainly in the 1st half of the 20th century, is considered the creator of metaphysical painting (pittura metafisica), which was a completely new thing at the time, with no precursors. De Chirico created the concept of metaphysical painting. He drew inspiration from mythology, philosophical works and his own experiences.
