Workshop lithograph on paper, 55 x 75 cm;
signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right “Weisbuch” and hand-numbered in the lower left 43/250.
Claude Weisbuch was a French artist best known for his vivid drawings and lithographs of horses, opera, dancers, and musicians. Using only a few shades of earth tones, as well as black and white, Weisbuch emphasized movement and form through the thickness of his lines and his use of tone. “I like the sketch, the unfinished, the image filled with mystery,” he used to say. Weisbuch’s works are in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung in Munich.
