Biography
Painter, illustrator, interior decorator, set designer for plays and ballets, author of the book *Wczoraj* (*Yesterday*), which recounts the author’s and her husband’s—the painter Ludwik Marcoussis (Ludwik Markus, 1883–1941). She initially studied painting in courses taught by Maria Niedzielska under Leon Wyczółkowski, Wojciech Weiss, and Józef Pankiewicz. In 1912, she left to study in Munich, and by the end of that year she had moved to Paris, where she settled permanently. Together with her husband, she was part of the Parisian art scene—they were friends with Jean Miró, Mojżesz Kisling, Jules Pascin, Hans Arp, André Breton, Leopold Zborowski, and Tristat Tzara. In the 1920s, she designed decorative fabrics and wallpapers, and also exhibited her works in galleries in Paris and London. In total, she held 38 solo exhibitions, including in Warsaw, Naples, Bombay, Rome, and Ankara. She painted mainly portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. She also worked as an illustrator.
