The latter allowed the artist to deepen and anticipate the "conquest of space," creating works that drew on Baroque art, which according to Fontana was unparalleled with regard to freedom and movement. The work in question is part of a series of battle scenes that the artist created from 1947 onward using various media such as plates and vases but also sculptures that dynamically depicted situations of clashes between soldiers and warriors on horseback. In particular, in this work one can see the act that precedes the clash between a soldier and a warrior on horseback, transforming them into symbols of energy and dynamism that seem to abandon the flat surface and move into space with "baroque impetus."
