It documents his training at West Point, service in World War I, and then his rapid rise to war leader and statesman status during World War II, culminating in the D-Day invasion of Europe on the beach at Normandy on June 6, 1944.

The author's extensive interviews with Eisenhower in London in the days leading up to the Normandy invasion shed new light on the strategic thinking that guided the important plans being formulated at the time.

They also provide intimate insight into Eisenhower as a man and the deeply held values that guided him through the war and then shaped his tenure as President of the United States.
