A collection of poems dedicated to the heroism of the participants of the November Uprising, by Wincenty Pol (a.k.a. Janusz, 1807-1872), poet and geographer, professor at the Jagiellonian University.

The work is dedicated to two heroines of the uprising: "Emilia Szczaniecka" and "Klaudyna née Dzialynska Potocka" "on behalf of comrades-in-arms wounded in the fight for the Nation's independence.

We should add that the author participated in the uprising, was awarded the Order of Virtuti Militari, and began work on the work as early as 1831 during the fighting. The first edition of the work was published in Paris in 1835.

Among the most popular songs from the volume are: Krakusy, The First Anniversary of November 29 and Song from the Grave.
Some of them had background music.

Frederic Chopin himself composed the music for "Songs from the Grave," which popularized their wider reception as national patriotic or uprising songs.

Each volume begins with the slogan: "Poland is not yet destroyed," while it ends with the words "God, protect Poland" woven into a circle, symbolizing the belt of an exile with an image of the coat of arms of the Republic.
