A pamphlet devoted to the initiative of Aleksander Jackowski's "House of Orders of Landowners", aimed at rationalizing the grain trade and reducing middlemen in Poland under the partitions. The author of the dissertation Stanislaw Julian Ostroróg (1834/1835-1890) was a Polish photographer active in France and England under the pseudonym "Walery". He ran photographic establishments in Marseilles, Paris and London, specializing in portraits of famous personalities, including Gustave Eiffel, Victor Hugo, Louis Pasteur and members of the British royal family, and was named "Photographer to the Queen" in 1886. As a young man, he served in the Russian Guard, took part in the Crimean War, and during the conflict was already engaged in daguerreotyping. He was also interested in music, journalism and poetry. He died in 1890 and was buried in Brompton Cemetery in London.
