Minor local browning of paper, good condition. Eleventh (of nineteen) volume of works by G. de Mably (1709-1785) - French philosopher and political writer. Even before the First Partition, representatives of the Bar Confederation turned to him and J. J. Rousseau to outline a preliminary draft of the future Polish constitution. These were the beginnings of work on the May 3 Constitution. This volume of "Works" is entirely devoted to Poland: "Du Gouvernement et des loix de la Pologne. A M. le Comte Wielhorski" (which is noted on the pre-title page: "Ce volume contient le Traité du gouvernement de Pologne". The text was written in 1781. The author devoted individual chapters to the current situation in Poland, the Bar Confederation, law reform, the legislature, the king's role in the system of government, the judiciary, the army and police, the treasury ministry, and the liberum veto.
