Kotarba Adolf - born 17.05.1893, son of Anna and Boleslaw, grandson of the January insurgent Franciszek Kotarba, graduate of the locksmith school, permanently residing with his family in Podgórze, from 22.01.1913 member of the Riflemen's Association (pseud. "Leszek"), soldier of the 1st Brigade 2nd Company, kept a diary throughout the war, which in 1938 was published under the title: "Soldier's Diary of a Sergeant of the 1st Brigade of Jozef Pilsudski". Adolf had strong ideological ties to Commander Pilsudski and in the "Diary" he makes no secret of, and even emphasizes, the superiority of the men of the 1st Brigade over other Polish formations, not to mention the Austrians and Germans. From December 1914 to March 1915, he was hospitalized in Nowy Targ during an illness. Upon his return, he was assigned to the 1st Company of the 4th Infantry Regiment of the Legions. He went through the entire combat route of the 1st Brigade during battles in Malopolska, the Kingdom of Poland and on the Styr River in Volhynia. He was later transferred to the 3rd Battalion of the 5th Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to sergeant on 12.07.1916. (regimental order no. 50). As he was ideologically very strongly attached to the person of Commander Pilsudski, he refused to take the oath during the "oath crisis". He was conscripted into the Austrian army and sent to the Italian front together with Felix Kotarba and his brother Stefan. In the Polish army since November 1918, he participated in the wars to define the borders of the Republic, first in the 5th Legion infantry regiment, in 1919 in the 6th Legion infantry regiment (including the strike on Kiev, Vilnius and the counteroffensive over the Wieprz River in 1920). Wounded in the abdomen, he returned to the army in December 1920, demobilized on 5.01.1921. From 25.05.1921 to 1.07 he took part in the Silesian Uprising as commander of an assault platoon attached to an armored train. From November 1921 he accepts assignment to the Border Guard .[https://swiatniki.wordpress.com/tag/feliks-kotarba/].
