Egyptian motifs in the works of Wilhelm Kotarbinski are considered among the most characteristic. As a representative of academism, he attached importance to realism of representation and classical models of ancient art. In the artist's compositions we can also find symbolic or fantasy-tinged depictions. Genre scenes with charming Egyptian women, landscapes with pyramids and the Sphinx, were popular among lovers of oriental art.
The offered work is a classic example of this motif in the artist's paintings. The young Egyptian woman in the palace interior is accompanied by an ibis - the sacred bird of the Nile kingdom. The free brushstrokes and slightly blurred contours add lightness and an aura of youthful longing to the composition.
