Bernard Louis Borione (Paris 1865 - 1920) French painter, studied with his father Evariste Luminais B. Borione, who specialized in painting genre subjects and interiors. The domestic antics of members of the upper echelons of the Roman Catholic Church caused a powerful fascination among many popular painters and their patrons in the second half of the 19th century, and in this case Borione was no exception. His intimate portraits of clergy life are both playful and full of character, but also extremely skillful in execution. The use of bishop's purple or crimson enhances the artist's palette and adds richness to an already lavish interior. Borione exhibited his paintings at the Salon des Artistes Francais, and his works were as popular then as they are today.
