Alexander Otto Stichart (Werdau 1838 – 1896 Jöhstadt) was a German painter and illustrator. His father was a senior teacher and later a pastor in Jöhstadt, and from 1852 in Reinhardtsgrimma near Glashütte in the Eastern Ore Mountains. Stichart studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, later in Munich, and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under Joseph van Lerius. He then worked in Christian Griepenkerl’s studio in Vienna. In the early 1870s, Stichart returned to Dresden and, as an independent artist, painted works with religious and fairy-tale themes. In 1878–1879, Stichart undertook a study trip to Italy, where he spent most of his time in Rome.
