French tortoiseshell miniature with a portrait of Napoleon II

rectangular in shape with chamfered corners made entirely of tortoiseshell (hawksbill sea turtle, Eretmochelys imbricata, Cheloniidae); in the centre within an oval reserve with a vegetal motif frame, there is a half-length portrait of Napoleon Franz Joseph Charles Bonaparte (Paris, 20 March 1811 - Vienna, 22 July 1832), son of Napoleon Bonaparte and his second wife Marie Louise of Habsburg-Lorraine, who was formally Emperor of the French for a fortnight under the name Napoleon II.
