ceramic, cast iron; height 124 cm; width 43.5 cm; depth 59.5 cm;
Germany?, 4th quarter of the 19th century
Freestanding tiled stove with a cast-iron frame; supported by decorative legs, topped with an ornate cornice featuring a godron motif; ceramic tiles in an olive-green shade, with relief floral and coffered decoration, glazed (numerous cracks); at the bottom, metal doors to the combustion chamber and ash pan, decorated with stylized rosettes; on the other side, an opening for the flue to the chimney.
These types of exclusive indoor stoves adorned the living rooms of bourgeois homes and townhouses. Rather than being a utilitarian heating appliance, they were designed to resemble an elegant piece of furniture, combining functionality with high aesthetic value.
