Biography
Zbigniew Grzybowski has been associated with Krakow all his life, where he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, under the tutelage of Professor Zbigniew Pronaszko. His talent and diligence were noticed by the lecturer, who offered him a position as his assistant. Grzybowski found himself in the role of an educator and tied his professional work to his alma mater, where he took up a professorship and was later appointed dean of the Faculty of Painting. Outside of his work at the university, he remained an active artist whose works remained in the realm of matter painting and later geometric abstraction. After receiving his diploma in 1952, he traveled abroad many times as a scholarship recipient. His works were shown in numerous group exhibitions at prestigious foreign galleries, such as Paris' Galerie Lambert and Gelerie de Jade. He gained recognition in Poland through his participation in art events such as the Biennale of the Young and the Golden Grape exhibition in Zielona Gora. Grzybowski was also involved in local art groups, associated with the ZPAP, to which he had belonged since 1952, and the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts. His work followed international trends, while at the same time growing out of local, Tasmanian traditions and personal experiences, especially those of the wartime period. He was twice awarded the Prize of the Minister of Culture and Art for his artistic activity.
