In “Spatial Composition (1+45)x(2+8)x(3+8)x(4+7)x(5+13)x(6+10),” the artist seeks to redefine the boundary between the plane
and relief. The foundation of his exploration is rhythm and a rigorous, monochromatic palette of white and black. He deliberately eliminates superfluous detail to focus the viewer’s attention exclusively on the structure of the object itself.
Using wood and bookbinding cardboard, he brings geometric forms forward from the picture plane. Thanks to this technique, the work begins to “breathe”—the depth it gains makes the shadows it casts an integral yet variable element of the whole, depending on the angle of the light.
In his work, he employs optical illusions. Through specific curves within the circles, I simulate sphericity, which allows me to introduce movement into a seemingly static form. This is his personal tribute to the tradition of Op Art, in which the image is not a finished object but a process occurring directly in the viewer’s eye.
Writing the title in the form of an algorithm is, for him, a gesture of distancing himself from superfluous metaphors. He thereby suggests that his work is the result of precise calculations, which constitutes a return to the idea of concrete art. His work is not meant to imitate reality—it is meant to create a new, fully autonomous quality.
