This painting is full of the sound of water. Streams murmur and churn, rivers push their waters at junctions, in the roar of smaller and larger waterfalls. The floods here are probably not bad, the tree houses are not a children's game, but a real alternative farm.
A similar farm, by the way, once really functioned, on the Vistula River near Toruń.Under huge poplar trees, on a small hill, partially paved, they raised all kinds of livestock and grew vegetables in several miniature gardens. Twice a year, the whole company would pack into several boats and move a kilometer away on the Vistula escarpment, escaping the all-too-predictable flood.
In one of my first visions of this image, there was still an old iron railroad bridge, with streams of water pouring out of all its spans and sleepers.
I had been trying to paint this ever-present rush of water since 2007, when, with my year-old granddaughter Louisa "on my shoulders," I would wade at low tide in the sands and mudflats around Mont-Saint-Michel hearing the incessant overflowing and bubbling cascades of escaping waters. At one point everything went completely silent, for a few minutes, and in a moment the noise, already slightly different sounding, dominated all the sounds of the endless mustard-colored sandy landscape there anew.
The tide had begun to rise.
The water was gurgling and coming in sight, we barely had time to get away from there. Only now, after painting Water World, have I freed myself (partially) from that noise.

Jacek Yerka (Toruń 1952, lives near Toruń) graduated in 1976 from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. He specialized in graphic design. In the first years after graduation, he exhibited posters, including at the Biennale of Polish Poster in Katowice in 1977 and 1979, international biennials in Lahti and Warsaw, and others. Since 1980 he has devoted himself entirely to painting. Relying on a precise pictorial technique modeled on the old masters (Jan van Eyck, Hieronymus Bosch), but above all on his own boundless imagination, he creates surreal compositions, especially admired by lovers of fantasy in all varieties. He inspired, for example, fantasy author Harlan Ellison to write 30 short stories, which, along with Yerka's paintings, made up the publication titled. "Mind Fields." The same American publishing house "Morpheus International" published the album "The Fantastic Art of Jacek Yerka". In 1995 the artist was awarded the prestigious World Fantasy Award for best artist. He exhibits at home and abroad (in Germany, France, the USA and others), being a respected representative of the fantastic art trend. He collaborated in the production of the American film "Strawberry Fields", where the images were to be accompanied by Beatles music.
