This elegant chest of drawers is a quintessential example of Dutch cabinetry from the turn of the 19th century. The piece features a slightly bombe (curved) front and sides, characteristic of the transition between late Baroque and Neoclassical styles. It is resting on prominent, hand-carved lion-paw feet, which provide a powerful and sturdy base.
The entire surface of the commode is adorned with intricate floral marquetry. Elaborate vases of flowers, scrolling vines, and delicate blooms are inlaid across the top, sides, and drawer fronts. Each drawer is fitted with decorative cast brass or bronze handles and a central escutcheon. The top surface features a scalloped edge that follows the decorative contours of the piece. Various wood veneers with extensive marquetry, Height 85.5 cm, Length 84.5 cm, Depth 59.5 cm
